Hey all. I thought y'all might get a kick out of this one. I ran across this earlier this evening while searching for info on an M1. Anyway...onward and upward... It's a two-year old article, but trust me...It's well worth the read!

Great story, when I was stationed in Germany my father shot some matches throught the DCM with his 03A3 in order to get a M1 Garand like he carried in WWII. While I was home on leave he got the notice that his rifle was ready and the smile on his face was like a kid in a candy store. I was able to be there when he took delivery of it. I now have that rifle in my safe and wouldn't sell it for anything. Dad said that after living with the M1 Garand ever day for so long of time, he was able to shoot a piece of coal tossed in the air 9 out of 10 times. I also still have his 03A3 and it's in almost new shape. He picked it up right after the war.

I carry a Colt Delta Elite 10mm in Milt Sparks VM2 with 2 extra magazines on my belt. This is normally worn on a belt under my bib overalls and works great for me. My wife carries a Walther PPS .40 w/Crossbreed holster.

Very cool story. Both my grandfathers were in WW2 and both carried the M1. Neither are around today , but I shot DCM / CMP rifle matches for a few years using a M1 . The rifle may be one of the finest ever designed.

Good story! Thanks for sharing it. As for the Garand, get one while you can. They aren't making any more.

Great story! Thanks for sharing. Band of Brothers is one of my favorite books, and the HBO Mini-series is my favorite TV show.

    Great story! Thanks for posting.

It will be a sad day indeed when the last of the Band of Brothers stands in the door for the final time.

Something like 1000 members of The Greatest Generation pass away each day. If you know a WW2 veteran, get him or her to talk about their experiences, or even better, write them down. When they're gone, their history will be lost forever. The memory of their sacrifices must be preserved.

My dad served with the 96th Division in the Pacific Theater, and was WIA on Okinawa in 1945. He never talked about it, wouldn't even join the VFW. He's gone now, all I have left are his decorations and a scrapbook with a few snapshots.

When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.

    Rudyard Kipling
