Great Idea for a Federal Bailout Plan

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG Insurance Company.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a "We Deserve It Dividend".

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion... that equals
    $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a "We Deserve It Dividend".

Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?

    • Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved
    • Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads
    • Put away money for college – it'll be there
    • Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
    • Buy a new car – create jobs
    • Invest in the market – capital drives growth
    • Pay for your parent's medical insurance – health care improves
    • Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed
    Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of
trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( "vote buy" ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult
    U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG – liquidate it. Sell off its parts. Let American General go back to being American General. Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never work." But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party! How do you spell Economic Boom?

Can we modify your plan just a bit?

Instead of giving a refund to the entire population, how about just citizens (read no illegals) and only if you paid taxes. A majority of Americans don't pay taxes. Instead they get credits and refunds from the government thereby making them pay negative taxes.

That would definitely increase my "fair" share.

    JonInNY,
Forward this to Bill O'Reilly. He may get some traction from it.

I wonder what the inflation would be with your plan...

Not in favor of the bailout...more debt on our children.

Yeah, and then I have to pay 15 bucks for a loaf of bread and 40 dollars a gallon for gas.

The AIG buyout is bad, but nothing compared to what would happen if we just 'printed' money and handed it out to the public.
There are two sides to every issue: one side is right and the other is wrong, but the middle is always evil.

No difference here, really...they are just printing money and giving it to AIG...it does the same thing to the worth of the dollar.

Thanks for the compliment, but not in a million years. I think there should be a law, that anyone that wants to be president should be disqualified. (Although I [modestly] think that I can do better than one of the candidates running. However, I will not say which one).

Sorry to rain on the party, folks, but the math is incorrect IMHO.

$85 Billion divided by $200 million is $425 per person:

$85,000,000,000/$200,000,000 = $425, or to show it another way,

    85,000/200, or

    850/2

    It still only equals $425

    Proof:

    425 times 200,000,000 = $85,000,000,000

Those big numbers always get me all tied up in my panties anyway.....

When they talk about a billion bucks, keep in mind that equals roughly 3 dollars per person living in the USA. (300 million X 3 = 900 million, or close enough to a billion for government work). Thus 80 billion is roughly 240 bucks per man woman child, and legal or illegal, present in the US.

Now, put a zero after that 240 to quickly see the rough per capita cost of the proposed bailout. Every man woman and child, legal or illegal, will lose a minimum of $2400.00. (I have seen numbers on TV that were 4 times larger but can't figure where they came from. Maybe they were the cost per tax payer rather than per capita, but that doesn't compute either.)
