I just got the strangest phone call
The phone rang this morning. I have caller ID so I looked at the number. It was an 800 number. I picked up the phone, said hello and I get a recorded message saying, "I am sorry. We have the wrong number". Then it disconnected.
I have tried calling the number back, but I have only gotten a busy signal.
Any ideas? I have already put up tin foil all around my house and am hiding in my copper wire pyramid.

I'd do a reverse lookup on it on the Web and see who it is registered to.

Or you can call your LD provider to report it and they can tell you which LD company owns the number and should be able to tell you the company it is provisioned to.

It was the Feds, they were making sure the wire tap was in place.

I view such calls to my phone as a daily test of the voicemail system.

That is weird. Never had that happen before and I don't know what to make of it.

I tried calling them back and got their voice mail. (How rude.) No indication as to who they were.

Hey that's my cell phone number!!!
All kidding aside, it's probably a telemarketer. I just Googled that number and came up with lots of people with the same response. Are you on the National "Do Not Call List"?
https://www.donotcall.gov/
I recommend you put all your numbers on this list.

I get strange stuff like that from time to time. The other day I answered the phone and the recording made it seem like I had called them, then said something like "press one for X, and press two for Y." No phone number shown, nothing on the caller id except "unknown," and who knows what I might have agreed to if I had chosen to press either number. I hung up.
THese calls are from criminals. They'll get someone every once in a while.
BTW, the other day I got an e-mail that looked really really authentic--- complete with a .gov domain name. It was phishing. The tip off was the statement, "Your account has been deactivated. To reactivate your account, please call 888--xxx-yyyy. I turned it over to our Credit Union Director who turned it over to the authorities. Be careful.
There will be more stuff like this as the economy tanks and as we approach the holiday season. These criminals don't have the guts to strong arm their way to a buck, and think they are smarter than everyone else, and oh so clever.

I get the "The warranty on your car is about to expire" phone call all of the time. Occasionally, I will stay on the line to mess with them.
It's a company cell...It's not my minutes, but they are definitely not getting any info.
