Why not just call it "The acreage"? Or instead of compound, call it the family campground.

Keep looking for what to call it.
It is 2 + hours away from where we live. Not to far, nice to have as an option to get away. Family farm is not the right image. Family compound is not right either. Sounds like the Kennedy Compound (and I don't think they would sleep in the 1970s trailor or old farm house). Compound sounds even more odd when you are talking about firearms (like you are in a militia or something, not that there is anything wrong with that).
How about "the property"?
Does it have a house and stuff on it or not? If it doesn't have a house and you are going to have to camp when you stay overnight could say your going "out to camp"
I guess it really depends on what is there and what your going to be doing with it. Sounds like a perfect place for a private range setup.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

How about "Stronghold"

You have never lived until you have almost died. For those that have fought for it, life has a special flavor the protected will never know
We'd probably say "we're going to our camp" or "going to (insert name of nearest town)"
How 'bout some pics?

I'd stick with "the farm", why make it difficult?
But it might be fun to give it some sort of name, like its some huge ranch or a brothel.

You could call it 'My Place'. Uh, I mean your place. Well, you know what I mean.....

BTW, Angola is the Louisiana State Prison and it's called the "farm" by some, because it is essentially a farm covering wide spaces of open pasture (with cattle) and plowed fields with truck crops. The inmates live in various spread out buildings, all are at different security levels. It is not a concentrated compound as you generally see.

We always called our 88 acres, "The Farm". Now, since I retired and built our current home there, we just call it, "Home" and I do have my own range.
