A 4-year-old boy is in serious condition after he accidentally shot himself in the throat late Tuesday, Florence County Sheriff’s Lt. Brett Camp said.
The incident happened at about 9:15 p.m. at a home in the Brookgreen subdivision near U.S. 52, Camp said.
The boy was staying with his grandparents at the time of the shooting, but it is unclear who owns the firearm.
From all indications, the shooting appears accidental, Camp said.
Family members are being questioned by investigators.
The boy remains in serious, but stable condition at a local hospital.

Its a shame that people are so stupid. A 4 year old is going to find just about anything someone can hide. Now Grandpa will have to live with his mistake. I just pray the kid has the same chance.

No accident here, IMHO. Criminally culpable negligence.

What's the deal with all these kids getting shot? When are people going to learn to keep their guns in a safe when they aren't in controle of them?

Bingo.
It is not at all difficult to find a location to store ones firearm out of the range of possibility for a four year old.
Never mind _proper_ storage which means unloaded and locked.
Jeebus people.
Just giving the antis ammo left and right for simple, stupid, and easily preventable stuff.

I have a safe if my G/daughter ever comes to visit ,any gun not in my physical control will be locked in the safe, she will be 5 on dec 16,I will also teach her about gun safety and why she should never touch a gun and if she sees one don't touch it and tell an adult

When kids visit the house, guns are in two places...on my person and in the safes...period!
No excuse for an accident like this...tough situation for the entire family and it could have been easily prevented.
"That I cannot do."

What a shame that these media stories about gun accidents are not balanced out with positive gun stories where people defended their lives, won championships and how rewarding it is for fathers and sons to go hunting together.
