    First LEO Encounter While Carrying

    Well,

As I am sure a lot of you know, New England got pounded by a storm yesterday. The roads are not real good still this afternoon, and unfortunately I had to go to DMV. Driving a Jeep Liberty in 4WD, coming down a little hill at about 15 miles per.

Next thing I now the back end starts passing the front end, and I am facing back up the hill headed towards the side of the road. The drivers tires hit the curb and the vehicle flipped over onto its side as if in slow motion.

Climb up and out the passenger door, call 911 and the wife. The local FD obviously heard the call because about 5 volunteers showed up and we were able to get the thing back on its feet. Looked at the drivers side, and not a bit of damage since it rolled onto a nice soft snow bank left by the plow trucks.

One of the FD had a strap and pulled me out and I was good to go. They took off, but I waited around for the local PD since I called them. By the time 2 patrol cars showed up, everyone was gone but me. The officer approached and asked if everyone was ok.

I then told him "Uhh, I have a pistol permit and a pistol on my hip". He replied "Ok thanks", and that was it. No ask to see permit, surrender the weapon, nothing.

There is no requirement to inform in CT, but I figured I should since I was crawling on hands and knees looking under the vehicle to see if things were ok and he might notice.

If only all officers felt this way about legally armed citizens.

    Merry Christmas,

    Mike

Sounds like a great experience. Glad you and your Jeep were not injured/damaged. I am sure glad we don't get much of that stuff down here. The idiots around here can't even drive on dry roads.

Sounds like things worked out all around for you... good deal! You did the right thing by informing them. I mean, I look at it from their point of view. All they want to do is be able to go home safely from their shift. I'm sure it makes them more at ease so why not let them know. Can't believe there wasn't any damage at all to your vehicle. Try and save the adventurous rides for the amusement park next time.

    ...as it should be!

You're a lucky guy...no dents? I'd be heading out to buy a lottery ticket today.

Nope, no dents, scratches, anything. Couldn't believe it when we pushed it back over.

Be aware that you may need to get the front end aligned, and it might not be apparent until you need new tires. Might be worth checking.

Yup. Called the wife while it was still on its side and she drove up in the Wrangler (we are a Jeep family).
