    Making sure no one's forgotten.......

    Happy Holidays!

December 21: Yule (Celtic, Pagan) Yule occurs on this day in the Northern Hemisphere; in the Southern Hemisphere, today is Litha.

December 22: Hanukkah (Jewish) An eight-day festival commemorating the recapture of the Temple of Jerusalem from Syrian Greeks in 165 BCE. When the temple was restored and cleansed, only one day’s supply of oil was found for the daily lighting of the menorah (a ritual candelabra). This small supply lasted eight days, and today an eight-branched menorah is lit to remind Jews of the miracle. Begins at sundown the previous day.

December 25: Christmas (Christian) Celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ and is one of the most joyous days of the Christian year. For many Christians the celebration begins the evening before, on Christmas Eve.

    165 BCE.
    What is 165 BCE?
Is that a time frame? When?

BCE= Before Common Era. The usage of "BCE" as a time reference in scholarly works has replaced the use of B.C.

Ummm... not sure, but they were using BCE rather than BC when I was in college 15 years ago (History major).

Wiki articles can be more or less accurate, depending.... but this sounds about right.

I would imagine so. More about the removal of Jesus Christ from our "common era" (B.C.= before Christ) Interesting in a way, but not surprising. Scholarly works huh? Right on!

As one who has been known to be very politically incorrect I still use BC and AD and wish a very Merry Christmas to one and all.

Mithra was born on December 25th as an offspring of the Sun.
Next to the gods Ormuzd and Ahrimanes, Mithra held the highest rank among the gods of ancient Persia.
