Here are a couple I just ran across: (feel free to add any you have seen)

At shooting ranges in Massachusetts, it is illegal to shoot at targets depicting a human -- whether as a figure, effigy or a silhouette -- unless you're a public safety officer performing official duties.

In Alabama it is against the law to alter the natural appearance of the teeth of a horse or mule to make the animal appear younger than it actually is.

In Alabama anyone performing a marriage rite is entitled to a fee of $2 per marriage.

In Alabama it is against the law to exploit a bear by promoting, engaging in or being employed at a bear wrestling match, or by subjecting a bear to surgical alteration of any kind, including, but not limited to, declawing, tooth removal and severing tendons.

In Kentucky it is illegal to sell, exchange, offer to sell or exchange, display, or possess living baby chicks, ducklings, or other fowl or rabbits that have been dyed or colored. It is also illegal to dye or color baby chicks, ducklings, fowl or rabbits. And unless they are at least two months old, the aforementioned animals must be sold in batches of six.

In West Virginia, anyone who taunts someone who decides not to participate in a duel or who declines to accept a challenge is guilty of a misdemeanor and can be sent to jail for up to six months and fined up to $100.

In Michigan, it is legal to kill a dog for attacking chickens, livestock or people, but you can't snuff the pooch in a high altitude decompression chamber or by electrocution.

There are a lot of laws on the books that seem dumb now, but made sense when written. Many are no longer enforced and state legislatures have more important things to do than repeal them.
Town I moved from in Oklahoma still had an ordinance on the books or proper way to hitch a horse to a hitching rail.

Here are some more from Oklahoma:
Females are forbidden from doing their own hair without being licensed by the state.
Dogs must have a permit signed by the mayor in order to congregate in groups of three or more on private property.
It is against the law to read a comic book while operating a motor vehicle.
It is illegal to have the hind legs of farm animals in your boots. (Want to guess what brought that one about!)
People who make “ugly faces” at dogs may be fined and/or jailed.
It’s statutory rape for a man over 18 to have sex with a female under the age of 18, provided she’s a virgin.
No one may spit on a sidewalk.
It is illegal to wear your boots to bed.
It is illegal to have sex before you are married.
Fish may not be contained in fishbowls while on a public bus.
Tissues are not to be found in the back of one’s car.

Not only is it illegal to have sex with the lights on, one may not have sex in any position other than missionary.
There is a state law prohibiting “corrupt practices of bribery by any person other than candidates.
Citizens must honk their horn while passing other cars.
Children are not to go trick-or-treating on Halloween.
It is illegal to tickle women.
No animal may be hunted for on Sunday with the exception of raccoons, which may be hunted until 2:00 AM.

In Culpeper VA: No one may wash a mule on the sidewalk.
In Norfolk VA:Spitting on a sea gull is not tolerated.
A man may face 60 days in jail for patting a woman’s derriere.
Women must wear a corsette after sundown and be in the company of male chaperone.

Cripple Creek: it is illegal to ride a horse up stairs;

Colorado Springs: It is legal to wear a six-shooter but not on Sundays, election days, or national holidays (CO is OC and CWL and CO Spgs does not contravene state law);

It is illegal to move a rock on city property;

Goats may not graze on city property (darn college kids);

It is illegal to insult a LEO unless stopped by the LEO (huh?)

Section 2331.12
Effective Date: 10-1-53

No person shall be arrested during a sitting of the senate or house of representatives, within the hall where such session is being held, or in any court of justice, during the sitting of such court, or on Sunday, or on the fourth day of July.


I just looked at the Ohio Revised code online and its still in there.

we here in the tulsa area we are not landlocked , and the possibility of a marine animal swimming to the port through the numerous locks , far fetched as it is , but possible anyway must be protected as to prevent the extinction of the species .

I remembered one that said, "If two trains approach each other at a crossing, both must come to a complete stop and neither may start up until the other has passed".

But when I looked it up, it credited several states, so I'm going to hope it was an urban myth, unless there were that many dumb states.

It is illegal to urinate in the waters of any park.

Persons may not change clothes in a gas station without permission of the owner.

No one may sleep on the beach at night.

Dogs may not be on the beach during the summer months during the daytime or the owner may be arrested.
