Attended My First Krav Maga Class Today

What a workout. Learned some pretty good basic street fighting defensive techniques and counter strikes. Fists are kept up around the cheekbone level, tough to get used to. I plan to do a little more research before I commit but it does seem like a good fit for what I am looking for.

I suggest those of you looking for an unarmed combat system give KM a try.

I would like to take that class. The Israelis developed it and it is found that any new recruit could take advantage of it right away withut a large learning curve.

Glad you enjoyed your first lesson.

Keeping your hands up seems like common sense, but always keeping your hands up can be hard to maintain unless you specifically train it.

    Enjoy.

I've looked for a class but nothing in my area. I like the fact the style accounts for a weapon (non edged) in hand.

Been looking for classes in my area... I took a trial class a few years ago along with an Aikido class... got my tail whipped in both... but didn't have the time to attend. I might make time now...

Thanks for the input. There's a school here locally I've been thinking about. A friend of mine confirms that it's definitely a workout.

I took my first Krav Maga class on Saturday and very quickly became aware of exactly how crap out of shape I really am!!! Holy smokes, what a workout. But I really enjoyed it (when I wasn't worrying about puking or passing out), and my second class is tonight. If this doesn't get me in shape and make me lose weight, it really is hopeless!!!!

And I really like the fighting techniques--much more practical, real-world than what I've been exposed to in a few karate/tae kwon do classes I've done.

I have been toying with the idea of taking it. I know I am out of shape, plus I now have to wait for a torn calf muscle to heal before I start anything more strenuous than my Taekwondo class (TKD mixed with Kenpo).

I might have to break down and change schools and find a Krav school here. How does one pick a school for that, as I understand it there is no actual belt level.

    Go here:

    KRAV-MAGA Self Defense Made Simple

This is Krav Maga Worldwide, I guess the only acccredited association in the US. Then there is KM International:

    International Krav Maga Federation

Which I guess is trying to make inroads here.

I don't know that one org is better than the other, and I guess there are independent schools out there.

Took second class last night. Was sure and truly fagged by the end of the warm up!!!

So far, this is turning out to be one of those things that, if it doesn't kill you, will surely make you stronger. I really like it (though it is embarassing to be doubled-over sucking wind while most of the rest of the class plunges ahead). At least they are supportive--"keep it up!", "just keep on pushing!", "it'll get better after a couple of weeks!", "just keep coming!"

Called the only KM school in my area... got invited into watch a class on Thursday... The only thing that is holding me back is the cost... $199 down and $189 a month (12-16 months to complete)... I could buy a new car for that...

    Thanks

Thanks so much for posting the urls for Krav Maga Associations. I've really wanted to find classes nearby. These helped out!
    Thanks again.
