CA vehicle registration fees?

I got my renewal notice for my 08 silverado. It was due in November, but I'm in Iraq, and the notice came way late. I don't think I have to pay the late fees though because I'm deployed. Anyway....

$450? For one year of registration? This has to be a mistake! Anyone else with a fullsize truck know the avearage cost for a year of registration in cali? I know CA is broke, but this is robbery. I will not be renewing. I will not be paying their failure to renew fees either.

I'm getting out of the military a few months after I get back though, and moving back to WA, so I want to reregister in WA anyway. I hate CA more and more every day.

CA has the tax in the registration whereas elsewhere one pays a tax and a registration/license fee.
