Asst. VA AG busted with drugs, gun

I wonder if VA's new law allowing Commonwealth's Attorneys to carry concealed handguns also applies to the AGs? Even if, doubt it gets you out of using it during criminal activity. Plus this genious took it into DC.

Lawyer in Virginia AG's office arrested on drug charges

    NORFOLK

A lawyer in the state attorney generalís office has been charged with felony possession with intent to distribute marijuana and a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

Police charged Steven F. Lederman on Thursday. Lederman, 45, works in the Division of Child Support Enforcement. Attorney generalís spokesman David Clementson said Friday that Lederman has worked there since 1997. Lederman has been suspended without pay pending further investigation, Clementson said.

Lederman was released from jail early Friday after posting a $25,000 bond, according to jail spokeswoman Bonita Harris. An affidavit in support of a search of Ledermanís home, filed in Circuit Court on Friday, gives this account of how an investigation started, how police followed him, and his arrest:

Police got a tip that Lederman traveled to Washington, D.C., to buy marijuana, and then brought the drugs back to his home to package and resell. The informant told police that Lederman spent $500 to $1,000 on marijuana, and that he sometimes stopped in Richmond on the way back to buy cocaine.

Police staked out Ledermanís home on the 600 block of Redgate Ave. in Ghent on Thursday and saw him get into a silver full-size van. Police followed Lederman to Washington, and then to Richmond. Police saw Lederman leave a residence in Richmond carrying a red-and-white bag.

Police stopped Lederman for a traffic infraction on the 7600 block of Hampton Blvd. A police drug-sniffing dog alerted on the red-and-white bag in Ledermanís van. Police found marijuana wrapped as a Christmas present inside the bag.

Police also found a mirror with suspected cocaine residue. The warrant does not detail how much of either drug was found. State law says that possession of more than half an ounce of marijuana is a felony.

The warrant sought permission to search Ledermanís home for scales, records of drug sales, packaging materials, telephone records and drugs. It did not list what, if anything, was found.

Two years ago, Ledermanís name surfaced as a possible contender for a seat on Norfolkís juvenile court bench. He was not named to the post.

A recording at a listing for Lederman said the number was not in service.

Guess he'll be getting his room & board, along with 3 meals in government housing for awhile. Hopefully they can prove he got drugs in DC on the trip. That takes it from a state crime to federal. More time behind bars and no parole.

And these are the ones that interpet law, and hold the rest of us accountable! They are no different than the rest of us, with no special powers that make them better or smarter.

Another victim of society! How can we expect this poor man who only has a law degree, passed the bar, and has been working for the state for twelve years to keep a roof over his head and food on his table? Of course he had to turn to selling drugs on the street to make ends meet!

I thought possession of a firearm and drugs made the firearms possession charge a felony.

I'm sure the charge will be amended once A DA reviews it,even if you have a legal CHL and It's legal where you are any drugs in possession make you an automatic felon and negate the CHL.I was watching Real Vice Cops or something on TV and down in Florida they stopped a guy for suspicion of drug possession when they pull him out of the car he's got a gun and tells them I got a permit. They tell him these drugs make that gun Illegal to have on you so he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon
