    Watch thy neighbor

I got this link in an e-mail, Something I think everyone should know about, especially those of us with children.

at this site, you put in your addressee and it brings up all the registered sex offenders living or working near you. The really nice thing is it's on a map with a little picture of a house in the middle to show your home location.

    Knowing is half the battle.

I'm out in the sticks and had only two on the map.

Sex offenders are indeed a prolific subculture and need to be watched...
Thanks for the links, I have two children of my own...

I was looking through some of the old places I lived in the past. I actually found someone that I grew up with on the list. Luckily, there is only one within 5 miles of the house I am buying right now. Thanks for the link.

They did do the little "Lessons" at the end of each episode, So i guess it's okay.

Hope this helps everyone to better know who is around and to keep an eye out.

I am just glad these days that there are ways to track these slimeballs.

My kids are all grown up but I sure still like to know where these ''people'' are - even for general info. They have rescinded their right to privacy IMO.

I hope they are doing a better job now then they were a few years ago.

My family was "involved" with a little problem, and looked up the person in the Virginia data base. The hit on the name came back as a 42 year old Black male....... The person was White and in his 20's. At least they got the "male" right.

There is one possible flaw in this system, though.

Take 18 year old boy. Take 16 year old girl. Been dating for 3 years tells her parents. Her parents press charges and he's registered for the rest of his life. I knew many girls in High School that would do something like that an not think twice of the repercussions.

When we hear the word SEX OFFENDER, we immediately think child molester or rapist.

Now I'm not defending anyone, but I'd almost bet that there's a VERY SMALL percentage (<1% likely) of registered offenders that fit into the teen ordeal above.

I also noticed that not all states list the offensive, but do specify if it was a child offense.

366 in my zip code alone! And 2 within half a mile! And I live next door to an Elementary school.

That is a good web site. Unfortunatley these are just the registered ones. I read once that over 2,000 disapeared after Katrina. Some may be at the bottom of the lake, but not all of them. Also level 1 & 2 usually don't get tracked to the same degree as level 3.

I looked at mine. There were so many red dots that I couldn't see the little icon for where my house is. I truly live in the ghetto of SLC. I'm just glad my kids don't live there full time. I have them 3 times a week and you can bet you bottom dollar that they are in my sight 100% of the time.

Have one young man in that boat, lives about a mile down the road. Girls parents didn't like him and pressed charges. Now he's screwed.
