Reminds me QK of just how much supposed ''pharmaceutical'' and allied stuff was sold with the ''magic radium'' way back.
Dread to think how many tumors were kicked off by such things -

Actually some of those old remedies did work. Mercury was a common treatment for STD's, that did actually work. True, the mercury would eventually kill you, but it would also keep the STD's from killing you much sooner. If you have ever read the journals of Lewis and Clark, there are several mentions of their men using it. It seems that their men were rather promiscious with whatever tribal women they encountered along the way.

I recently learned that they have found signs of frighteningly high levels of mercury in the latrines of known Lewis and Clark campsites. The levels are high enough that they are using the info to confirm whether other sites beleived to be Lewis and Clark related, are the real thing.

My Brother-in-Law's Brother-in-law was a pharmacist. He had an old "compounding guide" (receipe book) and for a cough medicine receipe, it suggested that heroin be substituted for opium if no opium is available!
