It has to be black? :)

Got something in your inventory that no idiot will buy? Paint it black and call it 'tactical'. You will sell out in a heartbeat!

    adj.

    1. Of, relating to, or using tactics.
    2.
    1. Of, relating to, used in, or involving military or naval operations that are smaller, closer to base, and of less long-term significance than strategic operations.
    2. Carried out in support of military or naval operations: tactical bombing.
    3. Characterized by adroitness, ingenuity, or skill.

    tactically tac'ti·cal·ly adv.
    That about sums it up.

Anything that says its tactical is usually misspelled. It's actually tacticool. Which means it's matte black (if intended for the wilderness) or camo (if intended for urban environments), so that it easily stands out from the non-tacticool gear.

Additionally, some people believe that tacticool products allow you to compensate for lack of skill with money, just like that big truck that never hauls, tows anything or sees a dirt road compensates for... well... you know.

My practical definition is: If a given feature helps to noticeably improve the situation and my ability to handle it (ie, light on a HD shotgun), I might consider it a tactical enhancement. Else, it's merely "tacticool."

tactical is one thing and one thing only, and that is making shots count when everybody else is wasting ammo. Tactical comes from "tactics" and that is procedure. BLACK-Please. I guess all these rainbow colored guns aren't tactical then.

I'd say it is something that improves upon or enhances real world tactics while in use, and not necessarily always black. A snipers M40 painted tan is tactical, my coyote tan flak is tactical, a $5 laser pointer on a shotgun is not.

A rail on a pistol, or a rifle can be used Tactically. A pepper spray can with a holster can be used tactically. A chair thrown can be used Tactically. Its basically what ever is useful, not just looks cool.

I gotta disagree here. What about Chinese new year. That puppies going to blend in... could probably hide on the sidewalk and wait for the enemy.

Put a Picatinny rail on anything and paint it black, then you can market it as "tactical". :P

As defined in Miami by Janet Reno.
