Great news! Was thinking it had gone on way too long. Four dirt bags in a life boat vs. our Navy, started to look bad. Happy for the Capt and his family.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. cargo ship captain Richard Phillips has been freed from captivity at the hands of Somali pirates who had held him hostage on a lifeboat after trying to seize his vessel, CNN reported on Sunday.

CNN, citing an unidentified senior U.S. official, said three of four pirates holding Phillips had been killed and that Phillips was uninjured. It said the fourth pirate was in custody.

CNN just reported the 4th pirate was aboard a US warship at the time of the escape, attempting to negotiate.

    Negotiations terminated!!

It's great news that Captain Phillips is safe, but we don't need to know the details of his rescue operation.

Obviously, the SEALS were involved, but beyond that, divulging the details of our strategies and tactics will certainly compromise any future missions. Everybody involved should keep their mouths shut and refuse to talk to reporters!

It's a 3000 kilometer coastline. Tough to patrol with any absolute degree of certainty.

But, I agree with the sentiment. So long as the country's primary export via sea is piracy, then the ships should be treated as such: likely pirates.

Here's a suggestion to every freighter in the world that dares to come near such risky areas: it's time for a dozen 20mm and 30mm deck cannon, crews who know how to use them, and the courage to lift a finger in your own defense.

Looks like we may be looking at "Independent Contractors" on the high seas. Anyone out there know about the legality of that under Maritime Law?
