Another actor leaves us
After hearing about Don Knotts yesterday, I get up, turn on the news and hear that Darren McGavin died. I always liked him, especially in Koljak the Night Stalker. Of course, he played the father in A Christmas Story. I'll miss him, thank God for DVD's.

there will be one more to go... they seem to always die in 3's... both were great actors and will be missed. I had the honor of meeting don knotts when i was a boy. My grandfather was a plumber down in L.A. around the time Don got his first home there. My grandfather installed the toilets, sicks and water sprinkler system in his home. But being a resuntly Naturalized british man, my grandfather diddnt think it was "proper" to ask for an autograpth. So the second day of the job he took me along. At the time i had no idea who he was. Later in life i knew instantly who he was and kicked myself for not knowing then. Atleast i got to shake his hand.

I carry because I care.

Yea, it's great that these people will "live" forever through their preserved work.

I am appalled these days - realizing just how many actors I sorta ''Grew up with'' have gone.
Sure makes for an increased feeling of mortality.!
Yes it is good we have so much archived material of the work - so in a sense they are well imortalized.

Don Knotts died? I still watch and tape Andy Griffith. I about laughed my head off at Barney trying to recite the Preamble to Andy!

Yup. You know how old you're getting when you make a reference to someone you grew up with and was well known....and all you get are blank looks from the "kids".
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the weaponry to make the difference.

Yah, well it was about 10 years ago when I was talking to a co-worker about what it was like to see the men walk on the moon and I got a blank stare.
(friggin whipper snapper.)
It’s so much easier now days, to "Love and honor" my wife, when she is armed, and shoots a better group than I do. (Till death do us part, eh?)

Too many of my heros are gone, except for DVD's.
Now my kids can grow up when I did (kinda.)
