The "news media" has ceased being the watch dog of the people and has become the apologist for an irresponsible government.

What a sad story, I don't think they would feed them before a match.
Sounds like a contaminated performance enhancing situation to me, given some kind of energy boost. Such a waste, this is horrible.

Before I looked at food possibly coming from China, I would look to A.L.F. (Animal Liberation Front) and P.E.T.A. (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Both organizations are against animals being used for any purpose and have not hesitated in the past to kill animals in the name of "protecting" them. A.L.F., which is the radical arm of P.E.T.A., is actually listed as a terrorist group due to bombings and arson they have committed.

I saw this last night and was absolutely heartbroken! I hope they find out the actual cause of this tragedy and hold the person/people responsible accountable!

Very sad. I'm thinking that it must have been intentional.
I would not put it past a radical individual or radical group in P.E.T.A. - they would rather see animals dead than "unnaturally subservient" to humans. I support The Humane Society. They do great work. The P.E.T.A. people are totally nuts.
They are extremely warped in the head.

Of course it could just be one sick, disgruntled, person (like a fired employee) that was working alone AKA an act of revenge.

If it was an ingredient in imported Chinese horse feed I think that there would be multitudes of other horses dropping dead elsewhere from eating the same imported food and those other horse owners would be calling the news media.

That having been said I refuse to give my dog any treats marked Made In China - which many are.

If something is not fit for human consumption in China then it sure is not fit for my dog to eat.

The Chinese don't seem to care too much for the lives of American babies.

I'm certain they care much less for American pets.

The polo-savvy writer of Fugly Horse of the Day says that steroids are rumored to be common to boost the horses' performance before a polo game, and they could have been tainted. That would make it the team owner that caused the deaths. There is rumor of an investigation. Lots of rumors; no facts except horses dropping like flies as they're unloaded. So sad.

That horse blog is profane but a wealth of information.

Just to clarify, PETA and ALF are separate entities. PETA is OK with putting animals down, ALF is not. ALF is a radical group that rejects specieism. They believe that animals and humans are equal. As such, killing animals is murder, and the ALF leadership has openly supported killing human beings as "self-defense" to protect animals (i.e. killing a lab technician to save a lab animal).

    True... PETA just funds ALF

Giving the horses steroids before a right before a match won't do a thing for them during the match, they take time to work, building up is a gradual process. I would discount that theory. I know that human athletes sometimes use bronchio-dilators,don't know about horses.
Whatever killed those horses, it sure is a shame, such beautiful, spirited animals.
