Why do we live - where we do?
Just interested here to see what our respective reasons are - for being where we are!
Some know my reason - I came over in 2000 to marry my dear lady wife - and that is where she was - so, this is where we live. I like it, and it just happens by pure chance to be a mere 24 miles from my son who came over in 1998.
I know some folks will be located where they are because it's where they grew up. Others have chosen to move - maybe because of work, other family, CCW even!
So - let's have it - the ''why'' you are where you are.

Moved here after retirement from USN to care for my father, who is now a hospice patient. Only 40 miles from where I was raised.

Followed a paycheck twice. Left paycheck. Wanted to live on a small lake in a small town. Found it. Moved. Invented new paycheck.

I moved from Upstate N.Y., to Gainesville (North Florida).
I decided to uproot from a close family, and many close friends to move to Florida, because there is better weather, politics, economy, and CCW laws. I moved to Gainesville for school (I completed one year when in N.Y.S.), I prefer the "social style" of North Central Florida, and it is within a two-hour drive of three major cities.
So far I’m not looking back. Pulse there is so much more of this place that I need to experience! Although I would be a liar to say that I dont miss my family and freinds.

Family, Home is where the heart is, just feel's right, I know most everybody I need to know, My business and customers.
I have traveled all over for work for 8 or so years before going into business and although I have been and stayed places that were very cool and would love to live there in theory, my family is not there so it would never be home. I might however retire in 40 years or so to one of those places but somehow I doubt it.

Language. Mom lives with us and she does not speak English although she learned on her own some basic greetings and phrases.

Work brings me to dirty jersey.....for now.
Eventually will end up in the suburban phila. area (in PA) b/c it's where I grew up, and it's a great place to be. Close enough for city fun (mainly sports), away enough for an uncrowded atmosphere when you don't want to be there.

I grew up in western Colorado during the 60's-70's, then spent a hitch in the Air Force and eventually wound up here in the Denver area working at a major hospital....it'll be 20 years here this coming June.
The city here has grown a lot, and I'm becoming more and more disenchanted with the traffic and crime. I will be moving down to the Prescott, Arizona area at some point this year, for 2 main reasons:
1. Looks like I might have a good shot at a job opening in a local V.A. Hospital there...have spoken with the Facility director a couple of times and have rec'd a pretty positive vibe.
2. Mom & Dad, brother and sis-in-law, nieces and nephews all live in Prescott, and my folks are getting on in age. I would like to be there to help them, and help my brother install and maintain a small vineyard that he is developing.

It's for the work. I guess I could find work in other places, but I like the Northeast, and most of my other choices are California or the south. Another 6 or 7 years I hope to retire someplace up in Pennsylvania.
