    Check out this alligator

The pictures below was taken by a KTBS News helicopter flying over Lake Wiess, about 90 miles north of Birmingham,
    Alabama.

The helicopter and the game warden were in conversation over the radio. Here’s the transcript:

'Air One, have you a visual on the ‘gator? Over'

    'Approaching inlet now. Over'

    'Roger, Air One.'

‘'Gator sighted. Looks like it has a small animal in its mouth. Moving in. Over'

    'Roger , Air One.'

    'Holy crap! It's a deer!'

'Confirm, Air One. Did you say a deer? Over’

'Roger. A deer in its mouth. Looks like a full sized buck. That's a big ‘gator. We're gonna need more men, Over'

'Roger, Air One. Can you give me a idea on size of animal? Over'

’It’s big -- 25 feet at least... P lease advice. ‘Gator is heading to inlet. Do I pursue? Over'

‘That has to be a HUGE gator to have a deer in its mouth.’

( The deer was later found to be a mature stag, 11 feet long.) Are you ready to go skiing on Lake Wiess? If you
ski at the west end of the lake -- try not to fall.

This alligator was found between Centre and Leesburg, Alabama near a house! Game wardens were forced to shoot the alligator .

Anita and Charlie Rogers could hear the bellowing in the night. Their neighbors had been telling them that they had seen a mammoth alligator in the waterway that runs behind their house, but they dismissed the stories as exaggerations.

'I didn't believe it,' Charles Rogers said, but they realized the stories were, if anything, understated.

Alabama Parks and Wildlife game wardens had to shoot the beast. Joe Goff, 6'5' tall, a game warden, walks past the 28-foot, 1-inch alligator (8.5 meters) he shot and killed in their back yard.

That is a big one, biggest I ever seen is only 2/3 the size of that one. Perhaps it time to upgrade weapons when I go boating.
I know not what this "overkill" means.

Good point, would have been great if they could have just captured it alive. Why kill such a magnificent animal if not necessary. He obviously wasn't eating people in or around that lake, and he didn't get that size overnight.

Honestly, don't be surprised if this is a fake......28ft is way oversized for this species.
The picture is real, the stated size of the gator is not correct.

Fact: Alligators in the wild are believed to live 35 - 50 years. In captivity their lifespan may be significantly longer, perhaps 60-80 years. Currently, there are no scientific methods of analyzing an alligators age while it is alive.

Myth: Alligators can grow to enormous proportions, over 20 feet in length and weighing a ton or more.

Fact: The longest recorded length for an alligator is 19' 2'. This animal was trapped in the early 1900's in the State of Louisiana. Most wild alligators do not get above 13 feet in length, and may weigh 600 pounds or more.

The biggest one I ever seen was in Naples FL. 15 1/2 feet long

Don't take this as gospel, but when I lived in FL, we lived less than 5 miles from "Gatorland." (Before it burned down) and they told us that a gator over 6 feet (I think it was 6 feet) in a residential area must be destroyed. I think it has something to do with their being so territorial and stuff, especially during gator mating season, and that over 6 feet they can eat a small child or something. At least, that's the theory I've heard.

According to this article, the beast met the criteria.
