Craigslist/ebay scammers...really this desperate?
I listed a little trailer that can be towed with a motorcycle for $300. Overnight...I've got three different offers to pay with money order...a shipper will come pick it up when the money order clears...I'll pay you extra...
C'mon, I new they were doing this stuff but I thought it could only be a worthwhile scame on bigger ticket items...like a car or truck. Even worse, they wouldn't do it if it didn't work...gosh people are stupid.

Yep.. and they are from Nigeria,.. Been there a few years back,. I let them send me the "check" for $10,000 and I was to send the remainder back with the shipper,. Ya,. Funny thing is I went to a local bank I used at the time and told them what was up,. They ran it through there scans and it passed everything,. I wasn't convinced, so they called the bank in Pennsylvania and found out the account wasn't a good account,. They called the FBI and I had to forward all emails and give them the one phone number I had,. Crazy stuff,. FBI agent said at the time there was others that did cash the check only to get taken for a ton of money...

Just tell them there is a one year hold on their funds to make sure everything clears and the FBI investigation is complete. Then keep checking your mail box for the money order.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but, I was reading just recently on the R1 forums..(fast motorcycle).
A guy met someone in a parking lot to sell his bike. The
buyer asked if he could test drive it in the parking lot..the
guy just drove off and never came back? $14,000 dollar motorcycle!
Just be watchful...lots of scammers out there.

That is just stupid,.. I wouldn't let anyone ride my bike unless they had a valid check in hand - or they left something for me,.. (wife, kids, nice car etc)

Yep. If they are sticking to the parking lot just hold onto their drivers license.
As far as the scammers go there's always someone willing to exploit others, and those others just don't know any better.

Had a similar experience. Funny how people get scammed when right there when you list an item they tell you to look out for these scams.

I don't trust anyone...cash only...and I even use a marker pen for that.
Sad times, huh?
Few places are like the Aleutian Islands.
When we first moved to Alaska's Aleutian Islands, I contacted a seller of a jeep. She gave us the keys and said, "Drive it for a few days, and if you still like it, bring me a check."
We were dazzled, to say the least. We were on an island, and that's the way people did business. We lived there for 7 years and felt like we were in a different world.
(There were over 6,000 people on the island.)

Luckily(for me), four years after my move they closed the base.

Same thing happened to me over a swimming pool. I wanted $1800 for the pool, guy wanted to send me $4000 for it and for me to pay his shipper. I argued with him enough that he finally gave up, it's so ridiculous. Worst part is that if there weren't some suckers taking them up on it, they wouldn't be doing it.

I told a Craig's List scammer today that I'd do the deal, but only with $3,000 cash up front for the Jeep top ($900), and I'd send her the remainder via cashiers check afterward. She had to prepay shipping too. No response. Dah.
