    Anyone Skype?

I'm still figuring out where my "any key" is, but we just got a new laptop last week, and I'm trying to figure out Skype.

Lo and behold, we have a webcam! (Which is pretty ugly since I type in my PJs. Yikes!) And we also have Skype now, which I'm trying to understand, but bumbling through it mostly.

    Anyone on Skype?

I use skype to talk with my international traveling daughter. It is great if you know a few other skypers that spend time on their PC's.

I use it to talk to my daughter living in Scotland.

Be aware that if you leave it "ON", you'll get some random number generated phone calls from sex lines. Always good to tell your significant other in advance! All our grown kids have it and we laugh at some of the "contacts" that pop up now and again!

Great concept and we use it a lot!

We use Microsoft Livecam (or something like that) to keep up with granddaughter #1 (2yo) in TN.

Great tool when you can't get there often enough.

Have tried it, but the quality is so crappy that it's a waste of time, much of the time.

Fine idea, and it's the "right" price. But, I only find it useful in the absence of all other available alternatives. Once they work out the kinks, it might be a tool. From my vantage point (in business), until then it's just another inconvenience.

    Rick,

Don't spend a lot of money on a new and better camera.

I use it as my primary home phone service with a Skype-in number and a Skype-out number. Uptime reliability is in the 99.999% range. Paired with a Google Voice account I have unlimited nationwide calling with call waiting, 3-way calling and voice mail and a full suite of security features and a privacy layer for about $32 per year.

I purchased a Philips Skype cordless phone and it works like a dream. It does not require the PC to be left on. It runs the Skype software internally and works great.

I love it! The video and real time conversation is right next to talking in person. We use an I-MAC,not that this really matters. Skype is cool.

Another option is MajicJack - but buy it in a brick and mortar store, not online (they will **** your credit card before they are supposed to with the free trial). If you buy it from BestBuy or the like you're protected by the stores return policy.
