    Ultimate Zombie/Post-Apocalyptic Bugout Vehicle

So I am looking at buying one of these:

They can be had for relatively decent money at gov't auctions, and generally take very little to get them back in fighting trim.

With a 2.5 ton capacity and troop seats in the back, it can haul the family, food, weapons and anything else we might need if (or should I say when) it becomes necessary to head for the hills.

What do y'all think, and anyone here have one?

OMG, no...but now know what to ask Santa for at Christmas! Holy moley, that is cool!

How fast can it go? Those Zombies from 28 Days and I Am Legend were pretty FAST, not your typical Romero-style staggerers. Can it outrun Rage-Virus Zombies?
Don't frisk me, I am the weapon.

    Bunny,

They typically do around 55 mph or so. There is a forum dedicated to military vehicles called steelsoldiers.com

Turns out they can be had at auction for $900 to $3500 or so, depending on condition. That is much less than a decent 1 ton pickup would cost me, and these things are much more useful.

I mean, what isn't cool about 6-wheel drive?

I would prefer something with a lower profile, if you know what I mean. If TSHTF and there is mayhem in the streets, a military-style truck may receive unwanted attention. Also, perhaps something with more and better all-terrain capabilities would be useful.

Its a cool truck! Just to add, if it were an EMP that hit us no vehicles would be running. Would look cooler with a gun turret.

Only vehicles with computers or electronic ignition would be effected. Old fashioned points/ condenser ignition & diesel would still be running! (diesel doesn't even need electricity to keep running.....just keep the fuel flowing & it will continue to run....the only way to stop my diesel tractors is to pull a lever that cuts off the fuel flow....)

Does that include fuzzy dice for the rear view mirror?

    Archer,

No fuzzy dice on a he-man vehicle like a deuce and a half.

Don't think I would get very far - average 6mpg.

For the SHTF scenario you would be better off with an AWD panel van or suburban. calls less attention to you but still very mobile and lost of room for gear and guns. Yeah and 6mpg would kill its mobility unless you bought 2 and had the second one with just a fuel tank on it.

Edit to add: It does get the tacti-cool vote though

Bunny, the zombies from I Am Legend are actually vampires, they were poorly ported from print to big screen.

However, if that sucker can't outrun "runner" zombies, I'll bet you could weld some cool bumper attachments front and rear and use it as a very deadly zombie weapon!

How big a tank does it have, and is 6mpg fully loaded or just average? Either way, that would look awesome parked in your driveway.

Hey. it was good enough for Burt in Tremors 2. If he had not run out of ammo, that movie would not have lasted as long.

I don't need one. I'm already in the hills that you all will be heading for.

I was thinking the same thing
