Really happy that you are safe and it mst have been a scary experience for your son. Lightening like that is extremely dangerous. I once got caught in a severe thunderstorm on a ridgetop in the Blue Ridge Mountains once.

Good lesson here for your son: sometimes it really IS time to bail out. "Manning up" is fine when it might do you some good, but there are some battles you really don't want to fight.

    Good decision-making in my book.

Funny, glad it turned out OK. I got woke up at 2 AM yesterday, by a whimpering 4 yr old daughter who was scared of the coyotes howling. Camping with kids is always an adventure.

I never got to use a tent, what is it like? My dad would make us sleep outside on the ground/snow/rocks etc, said it toughens us up.
It is pardonable to be defeated but never surprised.
