Last night we finished dicing out our first pig. This morning we devoured our first home raised bacon parts.
the birth of B'con was glorious.
Nothing beats 'home grown'. I can remember (decades ago) when we lived way back in the MI woods. Even the rural folks thought we were isolated. We had pig, goats, ducks, and chickens.
We'd have someone over for some homemade stew. I'd say that this was all out of our garden, and a guest would comment, "Not the meat!"
I'd reply, "Oh yeah, the meat too!"
"That I cannot do."
"Give this to, uh, Clemenza. I want reliable people, people who aren't going to be carried away. After all we're not murderers in spite of what this undertaker thinks."

Bacon may not taste the same anymore.
We grew 3 hogs once, around 1,000 pounds total when they were butchered. Dad got some high-quality feed for free from wrecked trucks he worked on.
No other sausage since has tasted as good.

Yep.. homegrown bacon is the best.. Then again, anything homegrown (cows, chickens, etc) tasts better..

I buy pigs from my Amish neighbor and butcher them myself, nothing says yummy like fresh bacon in your tummy.

Everything we ate came from the farm.
I never knew what restaraunt food was.
We butchered our own beef and hogs.
We always had fresh eggs.
We canned our own vegetables.....or as we used to say: we "put up" our own vegetables.
Sometimes on a clear day, I can see into the future with this spotting scope.
