Nassau cops warn of band of sneaky burglars

Nassau police have issued an alert for residents to be wary of teams of itinerant con artists who approach victims at their homes and commit sneak burglaries.
County detectives have noticed a pattern of the crimes, the police alert said.
In the scams "one subject portraying a surveyor or a contractor, approaches the homeowners, at their residences," the police said.
"While engaging in distracting conversation, the subject diverts the homeowners into their rear yards providing a means for an accomplice to surreptitiously enter the home and commit a burglary."
The police advised residents to set burglar alarms and keep doors and windows locked while at home. This could help thwart the "organized transient criminals [who]... are perpetrating a series of burglaries and scams throughout Nassau County," the police said.
The burglars usually travel in cars or vans with out-of-state license plates, and they sometimes swoop in on a house immediately after they see a resident leave home.

Gyspys have been putting stuff like this for years. Women in the winter time wear big fur coats with a small child holding onto the waist under the coat. Woman states car broke down can she call AAA. Gives kid a nudge kid drops out uder the coat ransacks house and grabs what he can. When the kid is done they knock at the front door and opens and closes it and tells Mom, Dad got the car started. Gives the illusion that the kid just walked in. The people have no idea they been robbed until later when they go to look for jewerly, cash

Wow! I suppose a crafty crime team of a tall woman and her midget husband could probably pull that one off too!
