How fast is your gun (bullet)

A MLB pitcher can throw a ball 100 mph which translates to 147 fps. With that for a reference point, I found the following interesting.

    45 Auto 230 gr.-----880 fps or 600mph

    9mm 115 gr or 22 lr:-----1225 fps or 835 mph

    30-30 win. 150 gr.-----2390 fps or 1630 mph

    308 win. 150 gr.-----2820 fps or 1923 mph

    223 Rem. 55 gr.-----3240 fps or 2209 mph

What travels 3667 fps or 2500 mph

It's a jet!!!!! The retired SR-71 Black Bird.

Hard to imagine a aircraft that would pass a bullet coming out of the barrel of a 223.

No, I did not calculate the Energy (ft.-lbs.) of the SR-71, I don't have a calculator that has that many decimal points.

    Got this off Wiki

The .14-222 is the fastest with 4465 feet per sec. It is a .222 necked down to a .14 cal it was created in 1985 by Helmut W. Sakschek as a "wildcat" cartridge.

I'll stick with the 45 Auto 230 gr (or 185gr in my Kimber Ultra).-----880 fps or 600mph.

I know of no dirtbags who can run 600 mph.

According to my reloading data, I can get close to 4200fps with one of my 22-250 loads. That equals 2863mph which would be faster than your SR-71. How many times would that break the sound barrier at sea level?

There's a bunch of rounds that fly faster than the SR-71. They just don't stay that way for long! Not bad for a 45 year old plane and it still looks awesome.

That has to be repeated. 45 years old. Kelly Johnson was one of those rare freaks, like John Browning, just a genius. To have designed a plane with those capabilities in that short a time without CAD or supercomputers, just freaking unbelievable.

My favorite and I believe the most beautiful plane of all time.
Last time I saw one it was flying over Sicily in '02.

It kind of makes you wonder what's flying out of the skunk works now. You know they haven't been setting there doing nothing. Many believe that the planes that have come out of area 51 (F-117, etc.) are just decoys to distract us from the planes they really want to keep secret.
