    NRA Differences

Can someone tell me the difference between what the NRA uses funds for, what the NRA-ILA uses funds for and what the NRA Victory Fund uses their funds for, since I get phone calls and mail solicitations from all three.

NRA membership dues are used solely to fund NRA activities, such as instructor programs, Eddie Eagle, Friends of the NRA, publications, in short, everything that is related to shooting, hunting, and member benefits, that are non-political in nature.

The ILA and PVF are the lobbying and political action arms of the NRA. Both are prohibited by law from using funds from membership dues to finance their activities. Both are funded strictly by donations.

When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.

The NRA is a type of non profit corporation that cannot get involved with politics, so some NRA members started the ILA.

Churches are in the same category as the NRA; no politics permitted. That's what is behind the occasional fuss kicked up in the news. This particular aspect of NFP organizations is, ah, rather unevenly enforced.

See, this is where my confusion sets in; I am certain the NRA (or its telemarketer) calls asking for donations to oppose some anti-gun group or politician.

That's because NRA dues can't be used support or oppose specific political candidates. Otherwise it would loose it's tax exempt status. So the NRA PVF needs to raise donations, subject to campaign finance limitations
