Hahaha. That's hilarious, but I think there's a bit of tinfoil hattery going on here.
This is clearly just some idiot lawyer at the agency trying to cover their bases.

I have seen some gov websites that lock up computers.
I can agree that it is most likely some idiot lawyer, however I can also see how this could be used against us. some fool builds a door as an honest mistake and then some time down the road someone else uses the door against you or me.
Over all its not good and they should correct this unless this isn't just some fool lawyer.

I will never go to a .guv website...I get plenty of their lies piped into my television. I only go to websites purveyed by people I trust, and lemme tell ya, I trust Guido's megaporn and pirated software site much more than these clowns......

Definitely not going to log into that guv website!

Such a goofy program.
The "clunkers" cannot be scrapped for parts.
The oil must be drained out and the oil replaced with Clunker Killer and then run until it dies so that the engine can never be made operable again.
The turned in cars have to be shredded/destroyed for scrap or the fine is $15,000 per vehicle.
I heard one car dealer on the radio say that 60% of the cars turned in are in very nice condition. Of the 6 that they got in one day - one car had only 22,000 miles on it and another only 35 thou and they would have been classed as "excellent condition" used cars.
He said that there are poorer Americans driving cars that are in much, much, worse physical condition with their cars having MANY more miles on them & getting far worse gas mileage and (sadly) their financial situations are such that they cannot afford a new vehicle even with the Clunker Credit.
It's a very wasteful program because the turned in cars would be a real upgrade for needy Americans.
Yep, this is just like FDR's ordering animals slaughtered, fields plowed under and crops destroyed to prevent 'overproduction'.
Mandating the destruction of a whole bunch of things of value to 'create jobs' squanders part of the wealth of the country. Imagine the industry that would be created in used car sales if these were allowed to be resold. That would 'create jobs', just not the ones he wants!

Read the program, its nothing more then a way to force car sales of new models.
I know not what this "overkill" means.
Honing the knives, Cleaning the longguns, Stocking up ammo.
Remember, all it takes to get on the radio is a phone.
The dealership I am at has done about 30 clunker deals. Most of the trades are very high mile trucks, with lots of damage or mechanical issues. I personally traded for a Mercedes Benz E320 wagon with 140K on the clock, but it would peg the temp gauge in 2 miles driving. The only trade that hurt my feelings was a '96 Caprice with 102K that was cherry.
And remember, only dealers have to use a password account on CARS.gov, even if the privacy statement is true. I can't find it anywhere in their privacy statement.
This Administration is spending money like drunken sailors on shore leave, at least folks can use this to put some of their tax dollars back in their pocket.

It's another stimulas package for car dealers, Funny thing is that most people are buying import cars. The Idiots in charge can't even rip us off right to help our own economy. They should have stated that you had to buy an FORD. The only untained American car company left.
