    Um, not really that impressive.

Jeff Cooper did this with an axe decades ago.

Steel is much harder than lead or copper.

You wanna impress me, have the samurai slice the bullet out of the air with the sword in his hand. Now THAT would be impressive.

The other problem with this little demonstration is let's assume the sword wielder actually did split a bullet that was coming right at him. Now in all likelihood, where do the two halves of the bullet go?

That's not even considering the sheer absurdity of it to begin with.

There is another vid somewhere where they see how many rounds a sward can stand up to and go at it with a M60. Bob would like that vid.

I thought the video demo was neat to watch. I don't think anyone actually meant it to make anyone think it would be a good defense against an actual bullet. Thanks for sharing.

All it proves is the laws of phsics still apply in Japan. By the way...if it was shot in Japan how did they get a gun?

Didn't surprise me at all. What would have been cool is getting to actually see the bullet split. High speed close-up.

    Ha!

That's only the first segment in the original program. I've seen the second half. They shoot a belt-fed .50 cal at the sword, and it tears the sword pieces.

Also, I'd like to see them shoot a bullet at the broad side of the the sword.

Why bother firing the round anyway. They show the guy cutting through a ferocious roll of bamboo and a very dangerous cinder block. Why not just set the bullet up and let him chop it in half? Probably because it is real hard to miss a 4 foot tall bamboo roll or an 8 inch square cinder block, but it is real hard to hit a 9mm wide bullet.
