Tom - I am distressed to hear about this. I do hope most sincerely you can find a suitable donor type in the near future.
My DL shows very clearly that I am an organ donor and even if the ''bits'' are somewhat worn out, I sure hope if I get trashed traumatically, that some stuff gets salvaged to help others.
You have friends here and so please, feel free to chat about all this and vent too - you have many listening ears. We are going to be following this as time goes on.

Tom, I'm sorry to hear that. But the good news is, the "routineness" of that operation and the success rate gives you a darned high chance of getting through it and leading a normal life. News like that takes a lot out of you. I know it did me when they told me that I had colon cancer. But with surgery I beat it. And you will, too.

Thanks to each of you. Bumper, the success rate with a live donor kidney is better than 90%, and with a cadaver kidney better than 80%. The center I am using is among the oldest and most experienced in the country, performing about two per week. I'll take those odds. Meanwhile, I'm still working full-time, still feeling OK, and still carrying.
