If the dealer wants to have a safe site, he could switch to one of the BSDs. A surprising number of computer programmers are pro-firearm, and the dealer could probably work out something.

(Note to Daddy Warcrimes: Ubuntu is supposed to be an OS for the people. You are right that Ubuntu it's self is not for older computers, but some of the variations are.)

I don't think running a website on an alternate OS would make it any safer for visitors. Linux may not be affected by as much malicious software as Windows, but without precautions can function perfectly fine as a vector.

    (ahem) "BSD is not Linux".

This is a couple of years old: Windows is weakest, Linux is more resistant to viruses but is still hackable, the *BSD's are most resistant to viruses and hacking.

But, yeah, you are partially right. OS choice is irrelevant on a site if visitors are using IE and if the site has links to the wrong sites. The rest of us should be using something like FireFox (with NoScript) or (from what I hear) Opera.

It's just self defense in another area. We don't use a lock that can be shimmed open with a credit card on the front door, we should not be using something as vulnerable as IE on our computers.
