I could add my own x-ray to this batch, although not as impressive. The X-ray tech thought the half of a sewing needle imbedded in my knee joint was impressive enough to carry it all over the emergency room and show everyone.

How did it happen? Refinishing a dresser and a sewing needed was imbedded in the shag carpeting. While on my knees and moving to the front of the dresser, I felt a tug and a snap, looked down and picked up half of a sewing needle. Then I saw a little red dot beside my kneecap. "CRAP."

After the emergency room they sent me home after scheduling surgery for the next day. Trying to sleep that night was difficult, especially when the sewing needle would scrape the underside of my kneecap.

I saw the X-ray of my left elbow before the surgery. I don't want to see it again!

I had a sewing needle go into my knee when I was a kid, a really large one, my Dad didn't want to take me to the emergency room so he removed it with a pair of pliers.

That sounds so much like my parents. We just didn't go to the doctor much.

Mom would pour peroxide on everything and say "you'll be okay".

If it could be seen I would have done it myself. Unfortunately the surgeon said, "Let me give it one try before we go into surgery." Local, slice, dug around with forceps for about ten minutes without success and off to surgery I went.

Don't know how old you are, but back in my youth that wasn't so unusual. No needles in the knee, in my case. But I did have a number of good size cuts cleaned and sewn up at home as well as a good size nail (which had gone all the way through my foot) removed .

I have known any number of folk to pull teeth (and I'm talking permanent, not baby teeth) at home. Latest was this summer. BTW, she also took some veterinary antibodies to fight the infection -- another common practice.

I'm thinking my day wasn't so bad after all.

Moron who shot the kitty should have got more than 30 days.

I hope someone smoked the teen who stabbed the soldier in the head. With vengeance.

As far as the python who swallowed the kitty "taking around xxx days to digest it", if it had been my kitty, there wouldn't have been any digestion other than digestion of the python by worms. Yeh, yeh, it was just doing what was natural. So would I when I cut off its head. Sorry snake lovers, kitties rank higher than snakes with me.

A big thank you to all the ER workers who rescue us from the dumb things we do.
