    Humility?

Sorry....I just got out of a formation where several hundred people stood and lined the taxiway because an O-6 wanted a salute.

Seriously though, they'll provided pretty much everything he needs. Get him something that isn't duty related, something that will help get his mind off work.

I'm not a jewelry kind of guy. Except for a nice watch. I don't wear rings, gold chains or any of that, but I enjoy fairly high end watches.

I've had 2 Tag Heuer and an Omega Chrono. Presently I wear an Invicta Pro-Diver Automatic 27 Jewel and 24 Karat movement.

Some people notice and some don't which is cool.

You might take a look at the Swiss Military SW-I here. Limited production to 600 per year. And it's a certified chronometer. You may also want to look at their Airforce 1 watch as well. (If you click on the "shop" link, be sure and convert the currency to U.S. Dollars for the correct price)
These Are Not to be confused with, el cheapo "swiss army watches!" These are truly masterpieces in the high end watch industry.

Good luck hunting for that elusive gift. That's half the fun!

If you want to get him something he'll actually use, buy him a G-shock (solar power/atomic watch). He'll get berated every day in pilot training for a crappy time hack, so it will be beneficial. I'd say about 50% of guys in my squadron have some variation of an atomic watch. Brietlings are nice, a lot of guys will buy them as group in the squadron and get a decent discount, so I'd save your money and let him buy that in a few years once he gets there.
