Need B'Day Ideas for Son, Navy Pilot to be

My sons birthday is coming up in a few weeks and need some ideas. He is in Pensacola, FL and has just started flight school for the Navy. For those of you have "have been there, done that" what is something he will need as his Naval Aviator career continues that he doesn't know he needs yet?
He hasn't decided between jets and helicopters yet, a whole other story, but will be flying something!
    Thanks for your help.

What's your budget? The one gift from my Dad that's stuck with me the longest is a Breitling Chronograph. The one that means the most to me is...his blessing.

    Nice watch!
Thanks. The GREAT part is, where I live even wearing my ratty bib-overalls & driving my old, beat-up pick-up truck, noboby even knows, notices...or cares. Gotta' love the rural life!

I thought you were referring to a chronograph for checking bullet velocitys

I know its not along the same lines that you are looking for, but I bet he misses home. I'd find a way to send him some Skyline, LaRosa's and Graeters.

I've never been in the Navy, I have no idea what would be a really nice, lasting gift for him.

I don't know if you are able to do this? But maybe a custom paint job on his flight helmet.

Years ago during the Vietnam conflict my father bought me a classy knife when I was commission as a new 2Lt. I carried it through Vietnam and thereafter on numerous backpacking trips down through the years. It is something that my grandsons are already fighting for. There are a lot of great brands on the market, but this special occasion deserves a name dropper brand for the knife.

I have a friend who sent his pilot son a knife as a special gift when he first went to Iraq. He still treasures that gift.

The Busse TankBuster being sold on Busse Combat right now would be a sweet gift that will last a lifetime.

A very nice watch is an excellent idea....a nice 1911 maybe? A nice small gift would be a pair of Randolph Engineering Aviators Sunglasses.

That is a tough one, they issue one everything one needs for flying and everyone goes to the PX after they get their first paycheck and buys a big watch.
Probably a good survival knife, one tough enough to break a canopy if nec.
Not one of those knives that have the cap that screws off and is filled with items, since strength is the issue and his survival vest will have those items anyway.

My son went surface warfare. We got him a good folding knife and a manual (windup) pocket watch. He already had the blonde and the convertible.
