    help the post office

I have been doing something for the last few months that I thought I would share. When ever I get an unsolicited offer from someone that has a postage paid return envelope I put some paper from either their handouts or someone else's (make sure your name/address is not on it) and send it back. With the recent articles saying that the post office is loosing letter traffic and pushing our costs higher I thought why not. This does 2 things. It aggravates and costs companies that send us junk and it helps the post office with additional traffic.

I have done that in the past. The best thing to do is go to the mail order association (I can't think of the name right now but Google it) and opt out, just like you do with the phones. That way the amount of junk mail you get drops off significantly.

I will continue to mail the envelopes back to get the post office count up.

Give you one better, in Vegas they try to hand to cards with scantly dressed woman with phone number so I take one and hand it to the next guy who hands you a card. The look on his face is priceless (The look is what the heck am I going to do with this.)

I do with junk mail what my late grandpa used to do when he got unsolicited mail:

He went to a hardware store and bought some lead sheets that roofers use to make patches for stove vents, etc and he cut the sheets into pieces that will fit into a standard business envelope; he would then stick two or three of these sheets into the "business return" mail envelope and stick it back in the mailbox.

Needless to say, after about 6 months of that, the junk mail stopped coming. I do the same thing and have found it to be remarkably effective....

With AARP, I stuff everything I can in the envelope and tape it together before I mail it back.

You haven't bought any lead lately, have you? $3 a pound, last I looked.
