I would find it difficult to believe, except.......
when I was in college (yrs ago) , I walked out to my car, unlocked the door, got in... and couldn't get the key to work in the ignition... I was getting very frustrated.
Then, I looked up and saw 'my' car about 3 cars down....... uh oh, so I got out quickly , got into my car (ignition key worked) and hoped no one saw me. The 2 cars, were identical (year, model, color, etc).
So, it could happen.
My dad once did something funny when asked to get a friends car for him. He got the keys unlocked the car started it right up drove it to his friend....who on seeing the car said "Thats not my car." My dad took it back to where he got it, and met the owner and no biggy. Then him and his friend got his car.
I unlocked the door on a chevy blazer a few years ago,car looked just like mine except when I opened the door I realised it was too clean, mine was parked a few stalls down
Don't worry, it only gets worse as you get older.
I did the same thing on a different scale. When I first moved to Vegas I used to frequent a certain hotel/casino buffet. Upon exiting the casino I went to the parking garage. When I arrived at the parking areas for motorcycles I thought I was imaging things. There were two almost IDENTICAL motorcycles like mine.
I looked at the registration and found my bike. On a whim, I tried the my ingition key to the motorcycle identical to mine. The key worked in the ignition & locks on that bike. What are the odds of that happening to me? Not very high!
Too funny Bark'n!
I understand part of this, I drive a 93 Bronco, hubby drives a 95 Bronco, my keys will start his, and his keys will start mine. What are the odds of that happening? Door locks won't work with each other's keys, but the ignition will, strange.
There are only so many key/lock combinations to go around so this kind of thing is not rare. I've seen a friend of mine open cabinet locks just by testing them against his existing keys.
The key that opens my mailbox, upon testing it on other things, I have found out starts my lawn mower, forklift, back gate at work, unlocks but wont start my truck, and my toolbox I have in the back of my truck. If I dont have a key to somthing, that is the first on I test. I love my mail key!
