I started out reading this article in which the British team Bloodhound Supersonic Car is being prepared to go 1000 MPH on land.
Out of curiosity, I looked up the fastest air speed record. I came upon this article in Wikipedia Flight airspeed record - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia As I was interested in what the fastest speed was, in no particular altitude or class of aircraft, I looked at the bottom. What I found is either grossly incorrect, or nigh incomprehensible:
November 16, 2004 Unmanned 7,546 MPH 12,144 KHM NASA X-43A Air-launched hypersonic scramjet
If my math is right, it would take 23 minutes to traverse the United States! Really incredible. Again if my math is right, it would take approx .697 seconds to go 1 mile. That is truly amazing!
