Airsoft as Personal Defense
Alright I normally don't like to post links to other gun boards
but, this post just struck me as plain funny.
A guy over at The Highroad posted about airsoft for
defending his home..at first I thought it was some kid
or a troll but, he said that he also had a real full size
1911 as well. Then why does he want a toy?
Airsoft as Personal Defense - THR
OK, here's the scenario: Its dark and you awaken to the sounds of a bad guy(s) opening your backdoor. You reach over to your nightstand and pull out your surefire, your 1911with 6+1 .45acp rounds, and your 1911 gas blow back airsoft gun loaded with 20 airsoft 6mm bbs and a fresh load of green gas. How would you go about incorporating the airsoft gun as a part of your self defense system?
The main purpose of this topic is to think outside the box. That's right, I'm not (necessarily) advocating airsoft for self defense. As an owner of an airsoft gun, its hard not to wonder about the potential of it as a less than lethal weapon. I can see many advantages and possibly more disadvantages... if it was part of your kit how would you employ it? Let's be constructive here... don't bother with a quick put down.
For those of you who still can't wrap their minds around the idea, lets change the equation:
You reach into your nightstand and pull out a surfire, a single shot .45acp derringer, and a airsoft 1911 with 20 rounds of bb's.
Remember folks...don't do drugs

I think we all wonder about the limitations of our airsoft guns

That statement is an oxymoron.
"Self defense" isn't what I would call a display being made with a non-lethal object, since so much can defeat it in the real-life game of "rock/paper/scissors." When criminals play this game, you can't afford to lose. What ... you're going to risk the lives of your two children and spouse by relying on a couple of Airsoft fakes at home?
I agree: don't do drugs. It can't help.
Your best weapon is your brain. Don't leave home without it.
Thoughts: Justifiable self defense.
Explain: How does
disarming victims
reduce the number of victims?
Reason over Force: The Gun is Civilization (Marko Kloos).

I think rocks or scissors would be more effective than an Airsoft gun.

The best way, and quite possibly the only way to incorporate an Air Soft pistol into your Self Defense System is for training purposes!
They are an awesome tool for use in FoF scenarios to get the adrenaline flowing and to practice tactics, technique and to hone your skills.
To use one against a real life adversary is foolhardy at best and at worst, a lethal mistake on your part.
JMHO, YMMV

I know these aren't even in the same ballpark as a airsoft gun; a kids toy designed to not break the skin during combat games. Have you guys seen these big bore air rifles though? This is right where my mind went when I read the article, before I realized he said airsoft, not airgun.

As long as it's HIS "self" that he's defending I don't care if he defends himself with Vlasic sweet pickle slices fired from a slingshot.
The guy is an idiot. Nuf said.

That and the comment about "don't do drugs" were clear give-aways.
