Alligator wouldn't move from Florida US 301 southbound near Tallevast Road, between Bradenton and Sarasota. A motorist called 911 and Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived to find a 10-foot alligator in the road. But the gator just wouldn't move. Deputies turned on their emergency lights, and set up flares, shut down the lane and directed motorists around the alligator. Florida Wildlife Commission alligator trappers arrived, tied up the reptile and loaded him into their truck. About 75 alligators in Manatee and Sarasota counties have been trapped so far this year, and last year about 250 were trapped. Further south, a 161/2 foot Burmese python snake was caught recently, and these serpents represent another big problem where thousands of pythons are invading the 2.2 million acres of Everglades. Could the alligator have been trying to escape from an attacking python?
