Ironic situation

My daughter calls me in because there is a spider in the kitchen. (She is petrified of spiders.) I killed it with a fly swatter. She said that was ironic.

Was it ironic?
Did I use the wrong tool for the job?
Is there a spider swatter?
Should I have just released it outside?
Do I have too much time on my hands?

She needs to live on her own, awhile. She'll learn there's a tool for every job. It's the appropriate tool. It's normal, not ironic ... unless she learned "There Was An Old Woman" on the piano and has spiders on the brain, so to speak. "Granny" swallowed 'em, if you recall.

There is some irony. Spiders kill flies. So do fly swatters. In this case, the larger predator won.

I have used a sword to try and kill a spider....mutant spiders that the local college can't identify. I cut it in half, the two halves ran away. After that I started thinking about snake shot.

You are trying to figure out the female thought process. Now, that's ironic.

I think you do have too much time on your hands, but I have the same amount of time, so...

You used a device that is used to kill insects. As spiders are not insects, you may have voided the warranty on the swatter.

You may wish to call the manufacturer and see if the device is certified to be used on non-insect species. If so, then you are good to go, but if not, although effective, you may wish to try something different on the next spider.
