Any mountain bike fans out there?

I have a Giant Iguana that I'm fixing up to help loose some extra tonnage. I am confused about one item...tires.
The bike came with 1.95 X 26 tires.
I read an article that said 26" MTB rims could use any 26" tire. This didn't seem right to me. So is it possible to mount 2.1 X 26 or 2.25 X 26 tires on my rims or can I put on only 1.95 X 26 tires.

I think you can, but why? A thinner tire= less resisitance.

Yes.. Any 26" MTB tire will fit any MTB rim.. I used to switch back and forth from winter riding to summer riding back in Michigan when I lived back there.. 1.95 are a good balance and rode most always on them, but for sandy trails I would sometimes put on a wider set,.. Are you going to be off road? If not get a set of road tires for your MTB.. . Last longer and are allot quieter on the road,.. :-) Good luck, I lost a bunch of weight on a bike,..

Yes. You can use fatter tires. The bead is the same size. Just remember that you may need bigger tubes.

I used to roll on 1.25 Specialized Fat Boys (Kevlar) and they had minimal rolling resistance. It was like I was rolling on a steel rail with 125 PSI.

I have a really cool set of tires on my police bike... the name escapes me right now, but they are great on road, and good off road in everything except slop. I wish I could remember the name of them...
