When I was backpacking in northern NM we had to make sure there weren't any saplings near where we hung the bearbags. There were some bears that had learned to use the saplings like catapults and jump from them to the hanging food bags and rip them open to spill the food on the ground.

I would have never thought a bear would/could do that!
Now if you were to run an electric fence wire smartly, the ole bear might be in for the shock of his life!
'Course on second thought that might make him mad; or seek other sources of food that's more of a problem than a bird feeder.

We are seeing more of these critters here in South Florida.
I have lived in S.FL. all of my life,finey seen one waiting for my
turkey feeder to go off.
