    Dam Black Bears

We do not worry about squirels getting in our feeders in VA, but more so those pesky black bears. My bud caught this big black squirel in his feeder recently.

They are smart as well. The one in my neighborhood of the Blue Ridge (just down the hill from Mt Weather) was smart enough to lift up on the bird feeder pole and then drop it. Go figure?

I knew bears could climb trees but didn't know they could pull themselves along on a rope. That is one persistent bear!

Amazing animal. I was picking black berries a few years ago, in northern Wisconsin, and ran my ass off when one looked at me from about ten feet away. Guess he didn't want to share.

Cool, you should rig a rip cord to release the rope.

I've seen a lot of squirrel proof birdfeeders, and a lot of strange racoon, skunk etc. "proof" feeders, but I've never seen a black bear proof feeder that works - the best ya can hope is they don't TOTALLY destroy it getting to the goodies inside. Total destruction is the usual result.

That's the most acrobatic I think I have ever seen!!!

Buddy locally had his feeder bear-trashed all during the winter of 2004/2005 - could be his invader fell to the 2005 bear hunt! No further problems.
