Try posting to your local craigslist and also posting signs.
I've returned many strays to their rightful owners by looking for posted signs.
Also, make sure dogs are microchipped and registered with tags on.
Hope they find the cute pup!

Thanks, the owners and friends have been posting to CL & their local papers. They are posting signs in their area too.
They fear she might have been taken by a coyote or other wild animal == but are holding out hope that maybe a human has found her and has taken her in. Not knowing what happened to her is the hardest part they are dealing with.
I don't think she is microchipped. You are right about that too!

Someone has probably taken her in. I hope that she's reunited with her family soon.
I'd be frantic if my dog was missing.
Good point about the micro-chipping Phoebe, tags can get lost, the chip is great back-up.

The good news is that Hartford being what it is, there aren't as many wild animals as there would be in a more rural area. I would be concerned more with traffic or a fight with another dog.
Also, I'm sure they are already doing this, but contacting every local animal shelter to see if she's been found. Not just the Hartford shelters, but the surrounding towns as well. Also every city the size of Hartford and larger will probably have more than one animal shelter. Make sure to call them all.
One more thing, a call to the local PD couldn't really hurt. Sometimes people report found animals to them first instead of to animal control. Some people think the police exist just to solve all of their problems, but that is a rant for another time.

She has been in contact with area shelters, and is broadcasting to contacts all over the web, newpapers and posters. Thanks for the tip about contacting the police, I am not sure if she has tried that.
They also hired a tracker --> here is a map of the area they covered.

No updates yet. It's been 11 days and no word.
They have friends who are writing letters and have been told they will get newspaper media & radio coverage!
