Northwest Airlines Pilots Miss Airport by 150 Miles - ABC News
// Two pilots of a Northwest Airlines flight Wednesday were apparently so distracted that they missed their airport and kept flying for 150 miles before landing the plane and its 147 passengers safely. For one hour and 18 minutes, the pilots -- flying at 37,000 feet above sea level -- were radio silent with air traffic controllers, who at times tried to reach the cockpit, according to a news release from the National Transportation Safety Board.
The pilots of the Airbus A320 told the FBI and airport police that they were in a heated discussion over airline policy and they lost awareness of the situation, the Federal Aviation Administration said.//
They said something about they may have been sleeping on the evening news....

Looks like there will be two unemployed airline pilots.

You'd think "auto pilot" mechanisms would have a feature to deal with arrival at the destination, other than simply blowing past it.
Yet another reason I'm not that unhappy about preferring alternate means of travel. Bending over and grabbing my ankles simply doesn't seem like doing very much, when all means of dealing with a situation have been taken from me. Other modes of travel, for me.

A. It's one thing to fall asleep. It's another thing to lie about it. (they didn't answer the radio from ATC.)
B. What does this have to do with guns?

I think the news said they overshot the airport by 150 miles and over 1 hour and 20 minutes with complete radio silence, hence the sleeping question. The control tower said they tried several times to make contact, but they were unsuccessful. The pilots are grounded until further notice.. Lot of P o'd Northwestern officials out there tonight I bet.

Thats why its in Off Topic.
That's too bad, I just had a flight on a chartered NW flight, and the crew was very hospitable and did a good job. Aren't their multiple people in the cockpit? If it was a thing where they fell asleep, did they all fall asleep? Maybe they were just playing the new Halo game.
CCW9mm, I'd prefer a different mode of travel a lot of times too, but living on an island in the middle of the ocean, I'm not gonna take a long boar ride to get home.

"overshot" the air port, I think it has something to do with the word shot, could be wrong, it's been one of those days.
