I saw a doc on tv talking about it's better to just eat butter or cheese in moderation than the substitutes or fat free alternatives. He basically said the same things about butter being around forever and margarine being man made and relatively new. I've been switching over to the cheese made from 2% milk which is slightly healthier and using less of the margarine.

This is really making me rethink my use of margarine entirely. Just when you read & hear all the hype on the benefits of margarine over butter. I think I'll be showing this post to my Mom of 74 years old. She's a big margarine user. She thinks that butter is worse for you. I know I'm re-evaluating my consumption of margarine entirely now! Thanks for posting it!

My mom told me when Margarine was sold during her time, it was sold with a separate yellow dye-pack that you had to mix it in with the white margarine to make it yellow like butter.

Please pass the biscuits and molasses to go with the butter, thank you.

Wow! I'm just glad I've eaten butter my whole life. The taste of margerine makes me ill.

Yep, your mom is right. I did the mixing thing as a kid during WW11. I remember the brand 'Nucoa, I believe it was, although I am not certain of the spelling. Butter was very hard to get unless you had farm connections.

Reason: spelling on nucoa

Margarine...Run away from it.
A little bit of butter is much better and healthier for you.
The "half butter/half olive oil" spread is a great alternative to margarine.

Margarine is made from vegetable oil (a food product) not plastic.

Oh by the way, most of that is true except for the turkey part and the plastic part.
