Sears Catalog; Army Tank?
Seems like long ago someone sent me a link showing an old sears catalog listing where anyone could order/purchase a real Army Tank - back in the 50's maybe.
I'm searching the web and so far no luck.
Anyone have this link they can post?
Thanks in advance...

That would be cool. It certainly would make Central Expwy easier to handle in rush hour.

Very few things could do that, but a Tank would!

Are you sure it was Sears. The tank thing sounds like something Neiman-Marcus would have offered?

thought you might find this link interesting....That is if you want a Tank!!!
Armour and Tracked Military Vehicles - MILWEB Classifieds
I read that you cannot drive a tank on US roads, is that true??
You can drive a rubber tracked tank on UK roads as long as you have a tracked vehicle rating on your licence.

Could you imagine that coming through UPS? Umm, sir we're going to need a bigger truck for this package. Shipping costs would be murder.

I'm pretty sure it was Sears and Roebuck and in the 50's.
Revolvers were listed there too long time ago.

My Dad had a replica of a Sears catalog from the 20's, I think... all manner of firearms from pistols to duck guns, though a tank would surprise me...
Cocaine cough syrup, too... those were the days, huh...? Ship me a Remington 30-30 and some coke syrup... 8 bucks, plus 11 cents postage...

I have military collector friends, one of them has a German half-track personnel carrier, another has a gun car, a lot of jeeps, 2 1/2 ton trucks, etc., an one even has a small howitzer that he pulls behind his WWII era jeep. A tank though, that might be a little hard to drive around.

I remember seeing an ad for jeeps in the crate. The ad was from the 50's I think. It was mil surp from WWII and Korea

There were some ads for tanks WITHOUT the turrets! They were marketed to farmers to use as tractors.......
Some were Stuarts & I think the UK's Bren gun carrier or Stude's Weasel (which didn't have a turret).

I looked, too, and didn't find a catalog listing. Did find where George S. Patton, right before WW2, was put in charge of US tanks, and found hundreds broke and unfit for combat. He bought the parts to refit the tanks from Sears and paid for them out of his own pocket.
