Well if the bullets are FMJ and the bad guys are lined up in a row you might be able to take out a few of them.

The trailer just seems so gloomy. I don't think I will be going to the show to see it.

It's based off of an amazing book by one of my favorite authors. I know there has been a thread or two on the book at some point.

I'll probably have to wait until it comes out on DVD, but I think it looks like it should be pretty good, if they do a decent job of adapting it from the book to a movie.

If you think the trailer looks gloomy, try reading the book. It is actually very good, just dark and dreary.

Read the book (free at the library). difficult to read, moving I guess. Movie may be hard to sit through. Didn't find the ending particularly uplifting. Liked No Country for Old Men much better. That book seemed to have been adapted to the movie almost verbatim.

Yes, the book is truly outstanding. It's difficult to read, but not from a vocabulary perspective - only from a content perspective. There's some real heavy stuff in the book, and it is VERY dark.

Only with a rosier start and a gentler slope. Easier to get started that way, and make the citizenry happy to be participating.

I don't know anything about the book or the movie, but a bunch of the scenes in the woods were filmed just down the road a couple of miles from me.

Take extra anti-depressants before you read the book.
Probably will need to do the same with the movie.

I did not personally like the style of the writer.
It may work better in the movie.

My wife made me read it. I haven't yet forgiven her for that and that was several months ago.

Sounds disturbing do all of the "good people" end up dead?

I haven't heard any spoilers, but a man and his son strike out on foot for the coast while fighting off bad guys in a world severely reduced population (should make Gore happy), no animals and practically no plants. They make it to the coast but it's even worse there.

    The Road Trailer

In an interview, Viggo Mortensen (who plays the father) said the point of the movie was that people could choose to be good to each other.

I'd like someone to tell me the ending, because I'm sure not going to a movie this dark. CNN is bad enough.

I haven't seen the movie yet but Cormac Mccarthy is best read with nice tall glass of bourbon, a pack of lucky strikes and growing determination to soldier on even though world is crap and getting worse. Man that guy can tell a story!

Cormac Mcarthy is my favorite author. The Road was my least favorite book. My favorite was Blood Meridian, and second was All The Pretty Horses. The other movie they made, No Country For Old Men was another one he wrote I wasn't that crazy about.

Although The Road is set in a post apocalyptic world the novel is about the relationship between a father and his son. 80% of the novel is dialogue that takes place between the father and his son which makes this a beautiful work IMO.

I'm sure the movie will be an action packed TEOTWAWKI thriller that will completely miss the point of the novel. I highly recommend you read the book first I read it in 3 days; it's pretty easy to get through.
