Had lots of Sailors and Air Force types cycling thru Ft Carson before I retired. Weapons training, convoy ops familiarization, basic dismount tactics.

The Air Force has been doing this too lately.
I guess it's getting harder and harder to call us the Chair Force anymore....

Spent 4 years in Navy and never fired a gun, then spent 9 years in Air force before they decided I needed firearms training before going to Kuwait. Qualified Expert first try with M-16, good thing I had that 10/22 in my youth.

...it's about time my beloved Air Force start taking the "Force" part seriously....for the first time in the 17 years I've been in, I had to do situps and pushups in my annual PT test....good....hopefully that will finally exorcize McPeak's ergonomic cycle (USAF vets of the last 12-15 years will know what I'm talking about).

Firearms training is still somewhat of a joke if you are a Cat III airman though.

In the Navy we call these requirements Individual Augmentations. Basically someone with experience that is needed over there, seems mostly to be admin/supply kind of stuff, goes through the training at Ft Jackson and then heads overseas for a year. One of the guys that works here left last month and I expect to see more before the year is out.
