    A successful thanksgiving holiday (pics)

My fiance and I drove the 8 hours back to central PA to see my parents for thanksgiving this year, and I have to say it went pretty well. Something we have always done on holidays is get out of the house for a few hours and shoot (you know those few hours when there's nothing to do but watch the turkey cook). Thanksgiving day was a perfect day for it - other than being mildly overcast, the weather was warm enough for a light jacket. A while ago my dad and I set up an area to shoot on his property and he has improved it since. Took out a few favorite toys including my K-31 and his new pride and joy a Savage 22. For rifle we set up in the second floor of the barn and shoot across to an area that is about on the same level anywhere from 100 to 250 feet away. Had some fun with the Savage and sighted it in for him.

That's my fiance in the background with a Ruger 10/22.

Then of course it was time for pistol. We use the same range and set up various markings for distance along the side.

We shot until it started to get dark and cold and went inside.

I also got to work on a small project that I've been wanting to do for a while: make a set of knife grips. We had a few knife blanks and I decided to make grips for one out of a plum tree we cut down a few years back.
    The log:

After a few coats of finish:

We also got a chance to see some old friends who still live in the area and catch up. So all in all a successful holiday.

Now that's how to spend a Thanksgiving day weekend... Congrats!

I had to sit around the house with family. No one to show, or talk about my pistols to either.

    Wow.

That's my idea of a great day.

And your mom shoots too? I'm very impressed.

    You are blessed.

Good for you. My Thanksgiving was so bad, I am living vicariously through others.
